Stitches are out

I have two hands on the keyboard for the first time since May 25th. The days kinda flew by and I'm on the fast track to recovery. Stitches came out on Wednesday, and I'm back teaching this week. Picked up the mandolin yesterday....won't be long now and I'll be able to bang on it like I usually do.

Sorry for the crappy photo. Tiff took the working camera to India, so I had to use the phone.... She left this morning and is en route to Mumbai, India, then Trinidad. Stay tuned...

The broken arm blues

Well, I finally did it. I fell off that longboard skating around our neighborhood. Yes, I'm 37 years old and no, I'm not selling the board now. On the afternoon of May 25th, I hit the ground, elbow first, and fractured the radial head in my left arm. I had surgery this past Monday and my doc put a single screw in. I have a pic I'll post soon. For now, I'm enjoying the various narcotics I have access to and listening to Jethro Burns.

Check me out!

Still on the Hill

Saw Still on the Hill last night at a house concert in North Park. IMHO, one of the best performing folk duets out there today. Saw a friend who attends our concerts and she was mourning the loss of her sister. I sent her this earlier:

As we stood in the kitchen, I was reminded of my good friend Mike McQuillen, whose picture sits out in my studio. Mike was one of the first people I met in late 1980's when I went off to college in Elkins, WV. We bonded immediately, as I had two tickets to see the Grateful Dead's 3 night run at the Capital Center in Landover, MD...and Mike had a friend with a truck. :-) He was a climber, a brother to us all, and he had a heart of gold. He died too soon on a November morning in 1994 outside of the Church Key Pub, just a week after he and I sat on the picnic tables outside of and talked about opening up a radio station.

It's been 13 years and Mike is still with me.

Tiff's doing well

For our family that reads this rubbish from time to time, Tiff called a few days ago and is doing well. We've been able to talk a few times via a satellite phone. They've made a lot of progress on the lab and she's having quite an experience. More later.
